The astronomy of the nodes is based on the moon’s orbit intersecting with the ecliptic path of the sun. Unlike planets, they are not made of matter. They’re mathematical calculations resulting in non-material points - the intersection of two orbital paths.
The astrology of the nodes is that these paths have an energetic pull - both literally and symbolically.
The North Node is where your soul is headed in this lifetime. What your soul is seeking in terms of karmic energy needing resolution. The North Node WANTS MORE out of this lifetime.
*For the purpose of this interpretation, let’s utilize a simple definition of Karma: our response to a given situation.
The South Node describes the familiar. Deeply rooted patterns, possibly long held emotional patterns. At times the south node can feel heavy.
The North Node shows our aspirations for this life and the greater path of intention. A compulsion or vision you feel drawn to manifest.
A simple way to interpret the nodes is to look at their zodiac sign and house (which area of life). The North Node (soul's path) + Leo (leadership/confidence) + 9th house (publishing/belief systems/philosophy). Put it all together: a North Node in Leo in the 9th House says the soul seeks leadership in philosophy, legal matters, and higher learning in this lifetime. Take it step further, the soul seeks leadership, perhaps in the form of teaching, in the greater search for meaning and belief systems, further seeking connection with the higher mind, and the higher self - then bringing this wisdom back to share with others.
The nodes can work as an axis allowing us to build awareness of where our energy is going. Are we finding ourselves in old patterns, longing for purpose? Awareness of the placement of the North Node can assist in choosing and directing our intention and action, and assist in keeping an eye on the vision of where we’re headed. To integrate the soul’s calling there has to be a balance between the two nodes, living out of both for a harmonious expression and integration.
The South Node allows us to build on what’s familiar, so that we can build into that which is unfamiliar - the North Node.
In summary:
The South Node:
Familiar but not necessarily conscious
Feels like perpetual repetition
Here to help us complete what our soul has started - not meant to “move away from”
Transformed by developing the North Node
The North Node:
A point of karmic reconciliation
Continual process of development
Full of novelty to claim
Easier NOT to do, and can feel out of reach
Developing this becomes our gift
